The word hell used to be a desired curse word when i was a little kid. i longed for the day that i would be able to say hell without the threat of getting my mouth washed with soap. Thankfully i have passed that stage in my life. With that being said; I was traveling to a funeral for a friend today and went past a billboard. It said something like Hell is a place you don’t want to go, then in small letters said something about needing Jesus. I was so in shock that i didn’t get a chance to write it down.
Follow me on this for a second. My guess is that it costs quite a bit to rent a billboard and I can’t believe that a Christian or group of Christians could not come up with any better message than (paraphrased), Hell is your home if you don’t change your ways. To me our time and money could be better spent telling people about Jesus, that He loves all of us so much He died/rose again, and that He has amazing plans for all of our lives. Maybe I am way off on this one. Hell is a real place and we all are/were lost sinners, but most people already know that. We as Christians don’t need to keep pointing out the problems, we need to work on how to conveying The Answer. May God teach us compassion for people, real true caring for everyone no matter who they are.

Definitely, this is something we always seem to lose when reaching out to the lost.

I think you would be surprised to know how many people don’t believe Hell is a real place or that it is only for “really bad” people like Hitler or Saddam Hussein. (Or someone from the opposite political party;-) )
But Jesus spoke of Hell, so as His followers there is a time for us to speak of it, too. In fact having compassion on someone might mean caring enough to warn them. I’m sure different people respond to different things which is why we have to be led by the Holy Spirit – we can’t rely on human knowledge to know how to reach people.
Jude 1:22,23
And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
